Getting to know each other

In a short conversation, we discuss expectations and answer open questions about the editing process. Free of charge.

Trial Edit

A trial edit helps you get to know my way of working. I edit your text and stop the clock after exactly one hour. Afterwards we discuss my feedback for your text.

Offer

Alongside the feedback of the trial edit you will receive my offer for editing the entire text. You decide if you accept the offer and inform me accordingly.

If you book my services to edit your entire text, I will include the fee of the trial edit in the overall offer.

Payment

Once I receive your payment (or a receipt of payment) I begin the editing work. Installment payments can be negotiated for large projects only.

Editing

At the agreed upon due date you receive the edited text from me. In a final conversation we discuss my feedback for your text.

The Editing Process

When I edit your text, I review your text for style, choice of words, as well as structure and logic of arguments. I also check your text for correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Editing of academic or other specialist texts also include a review of the factuality of the content. Anything revised by me will be marked directly in the text. Feedback may be added as comments in the margins.

What’s not included in the editing service: I will not suggest alternative wording or even rewrite entire passages. Why? For one, that would force my voice upon yours. Secondly, I would turn into your co-author, texter or ghostwriter. That is not my job as editor (and in some cases not even legal). My goal as editor is to always strengthen your text and YOUR voice.

My promise: I will always examine your text carefully. Nevertheless, I cannot guarantee 100 percent absence of errors. In fact, such a claim is an indicator for an untrustworthy business. Because there is no such thing as 100 percent absence of errors. No matter what anyone offers you: Experienced editors find around 80 percent of errors in any text.
